GDPR Compliant Forms

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a European Union law protecting people’s data. It gives individuals control over how companies collect, store, and use their data.

Companies must ask for permission before using this data, keep it safe, and allow people to see and delete their information if they wish. 

Why Use GDPR In Forms?

Using GDPR in forms ensures that you’re collecting and handling user data legally and respectfully. 

It helps build trust with your users, protects their privacy, and keeps your business compliant with EU regulations, avoiding potential trouble.

When you enable GDPR in SureForms, the forms will not store the user’s IP address, browser name, and device name in the entries.

Enabling GDPR In SureForms

Note: Before we start, please ensure you’ve installed SureForms on your WordPress site.

To do this, go to your WordPress dashboard and follow these steps:

  • Go to SureForms > Forms and select the form you want to enable GDPR for.
  • Navigate to General > Compliance Settings.
  • Enable GDPR Compliance under “Compliance Settings”.

Once you enable GDPR, these two options will be shown to you:

  • Never store entry data after form submission
  • Automatically delete entries

We’ll dive deeper into these settings in the next section.

  • Add a “GDPR Agreement” checkbox, ideally before your submit button.

Click on the Publish button.

Never Store Entry Data After Form Submission

When you enable this option, your form stops storing user entries immediately after submission.

  • Toggle the Never store entry data after form submission button.

Note: The “Automatically delete entries” option disappears when this is enabled.

Finally, click on the Update button. Now, the new entries won’t be stored after a user submits the form.

You can verify this by submitting a test response on your form’s front end. If set up correctly, entries won’t increase here:

Automatically Delete Entries After Certain Days

This helps you delete the form entries after a specific number of days.

Note: You cannot have this option and “Never store entry data after form submission” enabled at once. This is because both of them control how long entries stick around but in different ways.

To enable this:

  • Toggle the Automatically delete entries button.
  • Enter the number of days after which you want the entries to be deleted automatically.

Click on the Update button in the form editor to save these changes.

Now, your forms will store data for the specified number of days and automatically delete it afterward.

Deleting Entries Manually

If you prefer locating and deleting specific entries manually, here’s what you can do:

  • Go to SureForms > Entries.
  • Select entries to delete and choose “Move to Trash” from the dropdown.
  • Click the Apply button to delete selected entries.
  • To delete all form entries, select “First Field” and follow the same steps.

This will delete all the form entries from your SureForms dashboard.
